Chapter 43: Bai Song: Freedom Power!
"This is... a summoning ticket?!" Gudako stood up and snatched the golden card from Mashu's hand. Her eyes widened, and even her voice began to tremble.
When you have enough Saint Quartz, summoning tickets are usually used as mere stepping stones, just to test your luck. But if you've run out of Saint Quartz and only have a few summoning tickets left, they become your last hope. And now, Gudako held one summoning ticket in her hand, which would be her final hope!
For non-whales, summoning tickets might just be a few green squares, but for a lucky player, it's a chance for a single draw to get something good. And Gudako was confident that she was exactly that lucky player.
At this moment, she tightly grasped her hope.
With an unusually decisive speed, Gudako stuffed the summoning ticket into her pocket. She walked up to Mashu, her eyes sparkling, and placed her hands on Mashu's shoulders. "Let's go, Mashu! We can't waste any time. We need to hurry and set off!"
Gudako was now eager to reach the location of the magical energy veins and start her single draw. She even started fantasizing about what kind of Servant she would summon next.
Gudako's emotional roller coaster was too fast for Mashu to keep up. In the end, all she could say was, "Huh? Um, okay."
Just as the two were about to set off, Kiritsugu entered the garden outside the castle and approached them.

"Phew~ I think I've shaken them off." Bai Song sighed with relief as he confirmed that there were no signs of the police around. He sat down on a chair by the roadside to take a short rest.
During his escape, Bai Song had managed to change his clothes along the way. Of course, he didn't buy them; he happened to pass by a residential house where clothes were hanging out to dry. And they were even dry! So Bai Song decisively chose to 'borrow' a jacket, a short-sleeved shirt, and a pair of pants. Unfortunately, the homeowner wasn't present, so Bai Song had to help himself. It was a pity, but there was a chance they would be returned someday.
Thanks to changing his entire outfit and getting rid of his hood, Bai Song now had the courage to sit boldly on a chair by the roadside and rest. Since morning, it had been a constant cycle of running for his life or being on the run. Poor Bai Song's legs, which had never experienced a marathon, were now feeling sore.
But in reality, he was in a pretty good situation. The police who had been chasing him had a much worse fate. They were all feeling like their worldview had been shattered, to the point that many of them sought psychological therapy. Some even developed PTSD-like symptoms related to cats.
The most severe case was undoubtedly the first police officer who entered Bai Song's house. He kept insisting that he wasn't making up stories and that he was genuinely blown up into carbon by a terrifying demon cat's firecracker. Despite not having a single burn on him, he adamantly claimed that he wasn't thrown into a pile of carbon!
However, it was evident that nobody believed him. After all, it was a bit too far-fetched. If he had visible traces of being blown up, they might have reluctantly believed him to some extent. But this person had no injuries whatsoever. He only had a layer of soot on his skin, which washed off easily, making him look completely unharmed. And yet, he claimed to have been injured by the explosion. Wasn't he just taking everyone for fools?
If he really had been blown black, it would require an incredibly powerful explosive to turn his entire body into carbon. In that case, he would have been obliterated, and yet he vividly described the situation as if he were unscathed. It was hard to believe.
After resting for a while, Bai Song was about to get up when he noticed a familiar building not far away. Upon closer inspection, he realized that he had somehow ended up near the Matou household. "Huh? Isn't that the Matou house up ahead? What a bad omen."
He had been here once yesterday during the daytime, but he only took a quick glance from a distance. After all, he didn't want to get too close to this place. There was that creepy and seemingly immortal insect-like guy inside. Just the thought of it gave Bai Song goosebumps.
However, this time Bai Song would have to pass by the Matou Family, as he couldn't possibly go back the same way. But Bai Song wasn't too worried. After all, he was wearing a Tom and Jerry jacket—yes, he wrapped Tom inside the jacket. The main reason was that the police had seen Tom, and he couldn't continue wearing it around his neck. That would practically be like turning himself in, if not worse.
So when Bai Song 'borrowed' the clothes earlier, he intentionally borrowed an oversized jacket. Then he directly wrapped Tom inside it. This way, his defense could be considered at maximum. In this situation, Bai Song felt like there was nothing that could harm him. Additionally, it provided excellent concealment. He no longer had to face questions about the cat around his neck every time he entered a game arcade.
However, there were some drawbacks. Poor Tom was suffering inside the jacket, unable to see the scenery at all, and he was currently complaining about it. Moreover, because Tom was wrapped inside the jacket, Bai Song couldn't easily retrieve items from him. If he wanted something, he had to reach inside the jacket and let Tom find it for him, which was quite cumbersome. What if Tom handed him something flammable? Then Bai Song would end up burning himself. That was not acceptable, absolutely not.
Bai Song was still young, and he didn't want to die so early... Well, even though he had already died once, it was different. He died but didn't fully die that time.
But... who said there was only one Servant who could retrieve items? There was still Jerry sitting on his shoulder. Compared to the attention-grabbing Tom, Jerry was less likely to attract people's notice. Even if someone did notice, they would probably think it was just a decoration. Although Jerry might not initially have the same combat prowess as Tom, after all, Jerry was the weakest in his family, his combat power was undoubtedly on a comedic level. And the combat power of comedic characters was far beyond that of characters from battle series. With this in mind, Bai Song could rest assured.
"The rest of the journey is up to you, Jerry," Bai Song said, patting the Jerry currently sitting on his right shoulder.
"????" Jerry, who was caught off guard by the pat, looked up at Bai Song with a bewildered expression. His head was filled with question marks, wondering, 'What in the world do you need me, this weak little mouse, to rely on?!'
However, Bai Song completely ignored Jerry's bewildered gaze and continued on the road that would pass by the Matou Family without looking back. Although he was passing by, Bai Song always walked on the left side of the pedestrian path. Even if he was directly passing in front of it, he kept a distance of about four meters from the gate of the Matou Family. It was better to stay far away from that terrifying house. What if some bugs crawled onto him?
"Hmm? It feels... like there's something off about this house?" Just as Bai Song was about to quickly pass by, he noticed that a police line had been set up in front of the Matou Family. Looking from this side of the gate, the Matou Family seemed to have collapsed in a large explosion. The gate itself appeared to have been deliberately destroyed, as if by a bomb. The iron railing of the gate was twisted and distorted.
The discovery of the collapsed and damaged Matou Family piqued Bai Song's curiosity. He couldn't help but wonder what had happened to cause such destruction. However, he knew it wasn't a good idea to get too close or investigate further. It was better to continue on his way and avoid any potential danger or entanglement with the aftermath of whatever had occurred.
With a cautious glance at the wreckage, Bai Song quickened his pace and moved away from the Matou Family, leaving the scene behind him. He focused on the road ahead, determined to reach his destination safely without getting involved in any more trouble.
